With the Andes at our backs, we’ll cross the Cordillera de la Costa mountains. Our destination? Valparaíso, located almost two hours from Santiago. It is a unique city, not only for its history but also its architecture, next to the ocean, surrounded by a kaleidoscope of colors.

We’ll walk through the “plan” (lowest part of the city at sea level), where the buildings from early XX century will greet us next to the modern Congreso Nacional building, only Power in the state located outside the capital. Through Pedro Montt Avenue we’ll visit the old town, from Victoria square to the part of Valparaíso that shows us the great influence of the English, French and German colonies in the city.
We’ll continue towards the old Aduana (customs) building, passing by the historical Sotomayor square, its monument for the heroes of the motherland and the entrance to the touristic and loading port. We’ll follow by foot to Prat Dock, a zone that provides stairs for the embarking of passengers from smaller vessels. It still holds the name of the old Prat Dock, opened in 1884, since it was a great tradition in the city. However, the one we see today was built slightly ahead from the original, and therefore, further into the waters.
The hills in Valparaíso: a natural amphitheater

Did you know that the hills that surround the city make it a true amphitheater in the open air? We’ll climb the most iconic ones in Valparaíso, walking and using lifts, which create an integrated system, a current means of transport and which represent living industrial heritage unique in the world. Many of them are historical monuments and in the year 2003 were named Patrimony of Humanity by Unesco. Some of the ones still working date from 1883 to 1911.
From there, we’ll discover lovely sights and secrets that this city hides, from its architecture to their art galleries. In the hills, we’ll find many choices for lunch or just to have a taste during our walk, being thus able to enjoy the best things the city has to offer.
We invite you to explore Valparaíso. Book this tour and live an experience around culture and the history behind Chile’s most famous port city.
