This wine tour is different. The humid weather that receives the ocean’s influence, the clay soil and the large amount of minerals in the terroir bring life to delicious varieties of Pinot Noir, Syrah, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. Our tour begins heading west, to meet the elegance of the coast and the sheer passion of this wine that is produced under a different weather. You’ll travel through the San Antonio-Leyda Valley which represents a new wager for the Chilean winemaking industry. 

Our first stop will be in Cartagena. This beach town in central Chile is known by its wide Grande beach, its rock formations and natural amphitheaters, which bring life to different sights.  

Afterwards, we’ll go to the ancient colonial town of Lo Abarca, to learn the story of Maria Luz Marin, the first woman to become an enologist in a Chilean vineyard, to then accomplish her dream becoming a pioneer in the founding of Casa Marín, first cool weather vineyard in the whole of Latin America and the Pacific coast. 

Casa Marín: Elegant and innovative high quality wines in Lo Abarca (PDO) 

María de la Luz Marín made the dreams of many Chileans real: To make white sophisticated Ultra Premium quality white wines, taking advantage of the fertile soil in Lo Abarca and the weather patterns of the coastal zones.  

It was this way that many varieties of Sauvignon Gris, Pinot Noir, Riesleing and Syrah were planted, and made the world quiver with their elegance. Did you know that back in 2018, the winemaking areas where Casa Marin is located, Lo Abarca, was named PDO (Protected Designation of Origin)? This has taken them to gain big awards and recognitions. 

Roam through their sights and discover the secret to their success. Taste these wines with soft aromas, intense color and fine personalities, in a tour where you’ll see its vineyards, cellars and family history. 

For lunch, you may choose between 2 options: El Sauce restaurant, ancient family tradition founded in 1923, where pork ribs are king, or the Equilibrium restaurant in Matetic Vineyard, that offers a great variety of cuisine products and delicious gourmet dishes. 

Then, the wine tour continues in a place where sustainability is the true standard for the wine: Matetic Vineyards. 

Matetic is a boutique cellar, organic and biodynamic, that is found in a completely enclosed valley, with a 160 he surface that’s perpendicular to the ocean. 

The biological – dynamic agriculture takes care of the workers’ health and also the consumers, promotes plant and animal biodiversity by thinking about growing fields like one single organism. No chemicals nor pesticides are used, making heathier products. A series of animals help daily, mainly through weed control. Among them we find geese, chickens, alpaca, sheep and cows.  

Also, biodynamic agriculture is based in the anthroposophy principals founded by Austrian philosopher Rudolf Steiner.
